Increase in violence against sex workers

UglyMugs.ie is greatly concerned about the increase in crime against sex workers since the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2017 act came into force last year.

Sex workers in the Republic of Ireland have reported 54% more crime to UglyMugs.ie in the year 27 Mar 2017 - 26 March 2018 (compared to the previous year). Violent crime specifically is up 77%.

We have today written to the Department of Justice about our deep concerns regarding the current situation. We also stated we strongly feel it would be beneficial for there to be an independent academic review of UglyMugs.ie data in regard to the current increase in crime against sex workers, and we would like the Department of Justice to cooperate with us to get this done as soon as possible.
